a good day to die
Actually, I mostly avoided death in today's tournament at UCC - the first go tournament to be held in Cork, as well as my own first attendance at one despite previous threats ^^ Kudos to Stephan & Co of the UCC Club for pulling it off smoothly.
A last minute appeal from Lucas resulted in the timings being changed to make the tournament official, meaning that it will count towards EGF rating. Especially handy for those of us who previously did not have one.
While neither
nabnerd nor myself represented the Cobh group particularly well, managing only a single win between us in 8 games, it was still a good day. Definitely this year, I will become stronger, and hopefully get the Cobh crew to start meets again.
A forum post on gaia online tipped me off about a real-time server I hadn't heard of before. FlyOrDie Go has been added to the list on Cork Go. It's a java-based one and I haven't had time to mess around with it much yet. Indeed, I had only intended to grab my user name there, but as soon as I logged in I got a challenge from calver95. As it turns out, it was his (or her) first time playing. He had heard of the game and been meaning to try it out. Being used to coincidence as I am, I stayed a while and chatted while he suffered disconnects and I left games time out ^^ He seemed genuinely interested in learning, so I told him to catch me on Dragon or OGS. Will see what happens.
I plan to move Cork Go to another server shortly. Will need to play around with WordPress and see how it exports, but the intention is to get a copy up and running before moving the live site across. More on that as it happens. Or breaks...
